John Nelson, born on December 23rd 1926, also known as Joseph Noël Lefrançois and P’tit Noël, completed his life cycle on Earth, in Montreal, Canada at 12:05am on November 3rd, 2024, surrounded by his wife and 3 daughters. Born in Saint-Léandre, Quebec, ancestral lands of the Mi’kma’ki Nation, John volunteered to serve in the Canadian Army for WWII in 1942 as a private. Later, he went on to serve as a gunner for the Canadian Army Special Forces during the Korean War in 1950. Every first of July, John has marched at the head of the Canada Day Parade in Montreal for over two decades, wearing his original Korean War uniform. John lives on through the loving memories of his wife Monyeen Nalam Nelson, daughters Joline, Ashley and Celeste, son John Pihlaja, grand-daughters Salomé, Kaisa and Kirsi as well as all those whose lives he has touched. He was especially beloved for his legendary friendliness, bubbling curiosity and maverick heart, always challenging tradition. His family will host a memorial gathering on Saturday, November 16th from 11am to 3pm at Opale Space, 100 9e Avenue, Lachine, Quebec. Bring stories and loving joy in John’s memory.
