Social mission

Community involvement

Magnus Poirier always welcomes its customers with respect and an open ear, and so it’s always gladly gotten involved at many levels within its community.

Perinatal bereavement

To support families mourning the loss of a child during pregnancy, we offer cremation and an urn completely free of charge. In addition, for families who prefer burial, we offer all the services, the plot, the burial and the engraving of the monument at no charge, in a serene and beautifully landscaped site in our Laval Cemetery.

Children’s foundations

Magnus Poirier has always made it a point of honour to support organizations dedicated to the well-being of children. Several events and fundraisers are organized annually to help them.

  • Hope of Life Children of the World
  • The Lighthouse, Children and Families
  • Leucan
  • Défi basket (with the Marie-Clarac school)
  • Breakfast Club

Organizations for adults

More recently, Magnus Poirier has joined forces with a number of organizations to offer a complete, sober and dignified funeral to people who are alone or in need. Thus it is with great honor that we serve the Orphelins de Duplessis and the Little Brothers of the Poor.

Supporting people without family right up to the end

More and more people are dying alone, have no family at their side, or are simply unclaimed. In order to respect their dignity and honour their lives, Magnus Poirier proudly undertook its lonely funeral program. In Quebec, every person who has worked long enough can receive a death benefit from the Régie des Rentes du Québec. If a person is not eligible for this benefit, social assistance may provide last-resort aid.

With these funds, we perform the cremation of the person and place their ashes in an urn decorated with a plaque engraved with their name. We then ask a local church to hold a funeral mass in their honour, and an obituary is published on our website inviting anyone who knew the deceased to attend this final tribute. These masses are carefully filmed and kept in our archives. If a family member were to show up later, we would be able to pass this precious memento on to them.

Afterwards, the urn is buried in a local cemetery, where anyone who wishes to come and visit will be able to do so.
