On July 12, after 22 long years, Maddalena left this world to rejoin the love of her life, her husband, Giacomo.

She passed away peacefully at the age of 97 surrounded by family who stood by her with unwavering love — including her devoted daughter, Maria, and son-in-law, Frank Di Perna, her doting grandchildren, Davide (Romina Perrotti), Marc (Antonella Cucchiara), and Veronica. She is now also reunited with her grandson, Eric, who left this world before her. Last but not least, she was adored by her great-grandchildren, Ariana and Cristiano, who were her absolute greatest source of joy in her later years.

Maddalena’s family was her life. Her selfless devotion and absolute love shone through in how she raised her grandchildren while their parents worked. She offered her heart best through her food. Renowned for her gnocchi, stuffed olives and bignè, there was never a week where family and friends didn’t gather around her table to be showered by food, drink and lively conversation.

Maddalena’s other great passion was her flowers. Caring for the roses planted by her husband was how she honoured him in his absence. Her dedication was deservedly recognized when she was awarded the Montreal borough prize for “Best Landscaping”.

A gentle, unassuming, kind-hearted soul. A loving life beautifully lived. Mamma, Nonna, Maddalena, you will forever be in our hearts.
