Paisiblement et entouré de l’amour de ses proches, le 13 mai dernier, est décédé M. Lawrence Earl Smith à l’âge de 74 ans. Lawrence est né le 13 janvier à Rochester, New-York. Il était le fils de feu Mme Marjorie Hill et de feu M. Leonard Smith. C'est dans la ville de New-York que Lawrence a œuvré dans sa profession de l’enseignement de la technique Alexander et a rencontré Fernande Girard, sa conjointe des 40 dernières années. Ensemble, ils ont partagé de nombreux voyages et aventures. Outre sa conjointe, Fernande Girard, il laisse dans le deuil leur fils Ian Gabriel Girard-Smith, sa conjointe Geneviève Sévigny et sa petite-fille adorée Charlotte. La famille accueillera les parents et amis à la Maison funéraire Magnus Poirier au 6825 Sherbrooke Est Montréal H1N 1C7, le samedi 14 juin 2025 de 14h00 à 18h00. Il était le frère de Lynda, Brian, feu Geoffrey et Jennifer ainsi que sa nièce Mélissa. Il laisse également dans le deuil ses beaux-parents, Mme Rose-Aimée Gauthier et feu Edgar Girard. Les beaux-frères et belles-sœurs de la famille Girard, soit Gratien, Bernadette, Jacinthe, Sylvain, Jocelyn, Patrice, Stéphane ainsi que leurs conjoints et conjointes de même que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Mari aimant et attentionné, père et grand-père dévoué et généreux, il a été digne et fier de sa famille avec tout l’amour qu’on lui connaissait et cette capacité de le partager. Son ardeur et son professionnalisme au travail ont fait de lui un collègue de confiance. Il laisse également dans le deuil plusieurs ami(e)s, collègues et professionnels de l’éducation somatique et du milieu des arts. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Earl Smith, at the age of 74. Lawrence was born on January 13th in Rochester, NY to the late Majorie Hill and the late Leonard Smith. It is in New York City that Lawrence found his calling in the Alexander technique and met the person he would build his life with, Fernande Girard. They lived forty years together filled with adventure and travel. Completing their family with the advent of their cherished son, Ian Gabriel Girard-Smith. Eventually, they moved to Montreal where they lived happily until Lawrence was afflicted by the disease that would end up taking him away. Preceded in death by his parents and his eldest brother, Geoffrey, Lawrence leaves in mourning his wife, Fernande, his son, Ian Gabriel (and spouse Geneviève) and his grand-daughter, Charlotte. He is survived by his sister Jennifer and her daughter Melissa, his sister Lynda and his younger brother Brian, his parents-in-law Mrs Rose-Aimée Gauthier and the late Edgar Girard. The family will greet relatives and friends at Magnus Poirier in Montreal at 6825 Sherbrooke E in Montreal, on Saturday, June 14th 2025 at 2pm He is also survived by Fernande’s brothers and sisters, Jacinthe, Bernadette, Jocelyn, Gratien, Sylvain, Patrice and Stephane as well as their children and grand-children. His passion and professionalism at work made him a trusted colleague. He is also mourned by many friends, colleagues, and professionals in the fields of somatic education and the arts.
